How do you create the smoky eye look? What tools and makeup should you use?

I have always wanted to have that smoky eye effect but i can never seem to do it. I always feel like is Halloween when i attempt to create it.Please help!How do you create the smoky eye look? What tools and makeup should you use?
Well for me, I personally love MAC makeup. During Christmas they had a pallet called ';smokey eyes'; with all the eye shadows to pefect the smokey eye look. You could look it on the MAC site. you can use a smudging brush, q-tips, your finger! it works best with cream shadows!

choose a dramatic color... doens't have to be black! brush the dark color in the crease and smuge well to prevent that 'halloween' effect. blend with a shade slightly lighter so you don't look liek a racoon or ghoulish. add some highlighting power to keep your eyes bright and add lots of masacara and eye liner for drama. most of all, experiment. good luck!
