There are two things that are important in order to get a professional look when applying makeup...product and tools.
Eyeshadow with more pigment will show up more vivid on women of color. What you will want to do is to get at least two real hair eyeshadow brushes. One that is flat for applying your base color and a contoured brush to apply color in the crease of the eye. When first starting out with eyeshadow, I would stick with two contrasting colors. (i.e. taupe and dark brown, light pink and a deep purple, etc.)
Using your flat brush take the lighter color and apply over your entire lid. If you have oily skin you should prep your lids with a pressed or loose powder that matches your complexion. Now using the contoured brush apply your accent or darker color just in the crease of your eyelid. Add a black mascara and you all set. A basic defined eye.
And if you want a color to pop a little more just add a drop or two of water to your brush.
Some great lines for colors include MAC, HIP, Make Up Forever, and IMAN.I want my eye makeup to look like the real house wives of atlanta sheree and lisa?
